Recorded mostly in secret over the course of the last six months in the bands home studio, “Common Sense” is a personal project written as a letter to Americans at a time of great uncertainty and division. Diving back into their acoustic roots and often employing simple singable melodies played on the banjo and acoustic guitar, this five song EP is essentially a defense of Americanism as seen by the brothers in their travels playing music across the country. After opening with a traditional acapella version of The Star Spangled Banner, songs like “Bullshit” don’t pull any punches and get right to the core of what the brothers see going on in the country. Part protest, part exploration of their generation, part meditation on America’s past, this project stands out from their other work in addressing the country they were born in head on.
